NOT EVEN GOD COULD SINK THE TITANIC!

A Salvation Tract

In the spring of 1912, one of the largest sea faring vessels since the notorious Noah's Ark was about to embark on an infamous journey. The RMS Titanic was supposedly the most preeminent ship ever built-some even boasting that she was incapable of sinking. She was to make a maiden voyage across the proven waters and shipping routes of the Atlantic Ocean. Sadly, she would never make it to her destination.

The Titanic's tragic events that followed are very well known thanks to the elaborate efforts of many Hollywood studios. One little known fact, however, is the story of her builder. Just hours before the Titanic was to set sail from Ireland to New York across the dark waters of the Atlantic Ocean, the builder of this allegedly impeccable ship was interviewed by a reporter. The reporter ended the brief conversation by asking if the Titanic was truly the "perfect" ship-incapable of sinking. When the builder was asked this question he looked up to heaven from the top deck of the Titanic, shook his fist and said, "God, not even you could sink this ship!" Well, we all know how the story ends. Several thousand people lost their life that dreadful evening and the "perfect" vessel was proven perishable when a piece of iceberg penetrated the hull of the massive ship.

Many people in the world today are operating their life like they have everything under control-like their ship will never experience the doom of sinking to the deepest depths of a doom called hell. Sadly, like the passengers that boarded the famed Titanic that April day, they have no idea that they are walking the plank toward an eternity of torture in the worst place imaginable.

The builder of the Titanic believed that his ship's maiden voyage would be the first of many trips across the ocean; the first of many pecuniary riches; but sadly, she never even completed her first journey. What about you? You wake up every morning thinking that this "imperishable" body will take you to your expected destination, but what if you don't wake up? What if you get in your car and have a heart attack before you ever leave your drive way? What if you suddenly get a diagnosis of terminal Cancer? What if there really is a place called hell? What if you are more conscious there than you are here on earth? What if this is your last call? What if?

We may not physically shake our fist and declare to God that not even He could sink our ship. But if we are living our life in our own way without Jesus Christ and ignoring the fact that one day this ship will not make it to our desired earthly destination, we are mocking God just like the builder of the Titanic. We might as well be so audacious to spit in God's face.

One day we will all die-that much is certain. In fact, the Bible says we all have an appointment to die (Heb. 9:27). We have all transgressed God's commands in one way or another-lying, stealing, lusting, hating, etc (Exo. 20). One day we will all stand and face a holy God on the Day of Judgment. Will we be innocent or guilty? If we stand before God in our own "way", without Jesus Christ as our advocate, we will be ushered away to reserved VIP seating in the smoking section. Why wait any longer to completely turn to Jesus Christ? Time will eventually slip away from us. For some, it may be today (140,000 die every day), some tomorrow, next week, next year, or maybe in the next decade. The thing is, we never know. The passengers on the Titanic purchased their tickets thinking that they were among the fortunate few to have the privilege of sailing the waters in the greatest vessel ever constructed; most of them met their Maker the next day. No one knew of their fate.

Recently, and even closer to home, a bridge in Minnesota connecting Minneapolis to St. Paul crumbled away while several cars were trying to cross on a major freeway. Twelve people never made it home from work. My own cousin drives that freeway everyday. He was spared; twelve others were not. Someone that you know will die this coming year. More shockingly, is that you may be the person that someone else knows.

There is only one question remaining: What will you do with the loving Jesus that died to take our punishments for breaking God's commands-the One that is speaking to your heart right now? Don't answer hastily. This decision has eternal ramifications.

There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death (Proverbs 16:25)

Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father but by Me." (John 14:6).

Why not turn to Jesus Christ today and begin a relationship with Him? Most people already know what they need to do, but if you don't here are a few simple steps: Repent (that means to turn away from your lifestyle of sin and walk toward the things of God), becoming completely transparent before Him. Cry out to Him and tell Him you want to begin a relationship with Him that is closer than any human relationship that you have. You don't need to do it in front of a pastor. God does not desire a mechanical prayer prayed by everyone in the congregation. He wants YOU, not your pastor, to repent to Him from the heart. If you committed the act of adultery against your spouse, he/she would not want me to lead you in a statement of repentance to them: "Now repeat after me: Jane, I am so sorry for doing this [pause] Jane, I am so sorry for doing this..." (etc.)

For once in your life, just get real with God and give Him your heart. Stop living a life of selfishness and live for HIM. The time is now; today is the day of salvation.  Start reading His love letter to you, the Bible, to get closer to Him each day. Pray (every relationship needs communication). Witness your newfound faith to other non-believers. Get involved in a good Bible believing church that teaches God's Word, repentance, faith in Jesus Christ and discipleship.

DO NOT DELAY. TIME IS RUNNING OUT ON HUMANITY. EVACUATION IS ONLY AVAILABLE FOR THOSE WHO TRUST IN JESUS CHRIST.

For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. 2 Chr. 16:9
